Basis Independent Brooklyn is a new five-story, 100,000 square footage state of the art building. It is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn in a manufacturing zone district, thus requiring approval from the Board of Standards and Appeals.
The charter school features 45 classrooms, outdoor play areas, a gymnasium, and a theater. Retained by the Design Consultant of Record as Building Code and Zoning Consultant. Prepared applications, filed plans and applications and obtained approvals from NYC Department of Buildings.
PUBLIC SCHOOL 62R

P.S. 62R is a new two-story 65,500 square feet “Net Zero” school. It is the first school in the five boroughs designed to produce as much energy as it consumes.
The high-tech school generates solar energy through some 2,000 photo-voltaic panels placed on the roof and wrapped around the building; more than 80 underground geo-exchange pumps send water, to be warmed in winter and cooled in summer by the Earth’s internal energy, that supply the school’s heating and air-conditioning systems; a wind turbine also generates energy; the school has extra insulation and high-performance windows, to prevent heat or air conditioning from escaping.

The new school is located in the Flatiron District, a new eight-story intermediate and high school building with 93,000 square feet.
The intermediate school is located on the top two floors with access to a rooftop play area. It contains a multi-purpose space, administrative offices, multiple classrooms, cafeteria, and accessory uses. Services rendered included obtaining work permits and a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy from NYC School Construction Authority.
